Punjab: Party Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal Dissolves The Organizational Structure Of The SAD

Following the recommendation and suggestions by the poll review committee of the party, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal dissolved the organizational structure of Shiromani Akali Dal on Thursday. Not just the wings, but all bodies including the working committee have been dissolved.

Shiromani Akali Dal is a more than 100-year-old regional party of Punjab, now led by the Badal family. The Akali Dal is going through its hardest phase with just 3 MLAs in the Punjab assembly, lowest ever, as the Akali Dal-BSP alliance faced a humiliating defeat in the recent assembly elections.

The poll review committee of the party, also known as the “Jhundan committee” led by Iqbal Singh Jhundan, has reportedly visited more than 100 assembly constituencies in the states, taking feedback from the public as well as the ground level workers of the party, after which, it recommend to dissolve all the units.

However, the committee did not recommend any change in the leadership, which means Sukhbir Singh Badal, current MP from Jalalabad, will continue serving as the party president of SAD. Reportedly, the party will reach out to all the Punjabi and panthic personalities and influencers, from various sections such as farming, business etc, to take suggestions and feedback.

As stated by senior Akali leader Balwinder Singh Bhunder, the party, under the leadership of Sukhbir Singh Badal, will undergo restructuring. “The committee didn’t recommend a change in leadership, we will continue working under the leadership of Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal,” he further added.
