The Counter-Intelligence wing of Punjab Police in Amritsar has arrested a man and seized five illegal firearms, believed to have been sourced through cross-border smuggling networks, officials reported on Tuesday.
The individual, identified as Jodhbir Singh from Naushera in Tarn Taran district, was nabbed following a targeted intelligence operation, according to a post by the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) on X.
Acting on a specific tip-off, Counter Intelligence #Amritsar arrests Jodhbir Singh, resident of Naushera, #TarnTaran, and recovers 5 pistols, including two PX5 pistols, one .30 bore pistol (Star marked), and two 9mm Glock pistols from his possession.

During the arrest, police recovered five pistols from Singh, which included two PX5 pistols, a Star-marked .30 bore pistol, and two Glock 9mm pistols.
Initial investigations suggest that Jodhbir Singh maintained links with a drug smuggler based in Pakistan, who allegedly facilitated the trafficking of these illicit weapons into India.
An FIR has been filed at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar, and Punjab Police have launched further investigations to track down Singh’s associates. Authorities are also working to uncover the broader network by tracing its backward and forward connections.
“Punjab Police remains firmly committed to maintaining peace and harmony across the state,” the DGP affirmed in his post.
In a separate operation earlier, the Amritsar Rural Police arrested two members of a terror network after a brief gunfight near Ramdas city, police said on Monday.
Highlighting the breakthrough, Director General of Police, Punjab – Gaurav Yadav shared on social media, “In a major success against terror networks, @AmritsarRPolice apprehends two operatives of the Jiwan Fauji terror module after a brief encounter near Ramdas, Amritsar Rural.”
“The accused — Vishal Masih and Lovepreet Singh @ Love, both residents of Jafarkot — opened fire at police personnel during a chase but were swiftly overpowered with controlled retaliatory action. Weapons and explosives were recovered from their possession,” DGP Yadav added.
Meanwhile, on April 27, based on specific intelligence inputs, Counter-Intelligence Amritsar dismantled an illegal arms smuggling module with alleged connections to Pakistan. Abhishek Kumar was arrested from Amritsar, and authorities recovered seven pistols, four live .30 bore cartridges, and Rs 1,50,000 from his possession.
According to the police, an Australia-based individual named Jassa, in close coordination with Pakistan-based smugglers, was directing the movement of illicit arms and ammunition across the Indo-Pak border, leveraging the support of local contacts including Jodhbir Singh and Abhishek Kumar. Preliminary findings further indicate that both Singh and Kumar were also involved in Hawala transactions, pointing to their role within a wider criminal syndicate
