23 Punjabi Movies That Are Remakes Of Other Language Movies

Not all remakes and inspired movies are meant for criticism. Some remakes are only for the appreciation of the original film and its plot. Hoping that you were unaware of this, here is a list of few of the Punjabi films that are actually remakes of other films of different languages. 

1. Mel Karade Rabba

This remake of Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein starring Madhawan & Dia Mirza is directed by Navaniat Singh. This comedy love triangle movie had Jimmy Shergill, Neeru Bajwa and Gippy Grewal in lead roles.

2. Tera Mera Ki Rishta

The Punjabi version of this film stars Jimmy Shergill And KulRaj Randhawa and was a big hit at the box office. This film by Navaniat Singh is remake of a telugu film Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana. 

3. Luv You Bobby

Inspired by Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia‘s Bobby, this film was produced by Darshan Sidhu with the purpose of launching his son Vikram Sandhu. Love you Bobby did not perform well at the box office and not even close to the original movie.

4. The Lion Of Punjab

The Lion of Punjab was the leading debut film for Diljit, co-starring Jividha Aastha, Pooja Tandon and Gurpreet Ghuggi. This movie was inspired by the super hit Tamil film Dhool. Interestingly, Guddu Dhanoa debuted in Punjabi industry with the lion of Punjab.

5. Disco Singh

This super hit by Anurag Singh stars Diljit Dosanjh, Surveen Chawla, Upasana Singh and Manoj Pahwa as the lead cast. Disco Singh was inspired by A Hindi film Do Knot disturb starring Govinda, Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta and Ritesh Deshmukh.

6. Ramta Jogi 

Inspired by the hit Tamil film Kadhaal starring Bharat & Sandhya, Ramta Jogi did not perform well at the box office. The Punjabi version of the movie stars Sidhu, Ronica Singh, Rahul Dev and Guddu Dhanoa. 

7. Channa Mereya

Ninja, Amrit maan and Payal Rajput’s Channa Mereya is a remake of Marathi hit film Sairaat, which was one of the biggest hits of Marathi cinema. The Punjabi version of the film by Pankaj Batra performed moderately at the box office.

8. Lovely Te Lovely

Inspired by Priyadarshan‘s hit film Hungama, lovely te lovely stars Gurjeet Singh, Pooja Thakur and Hardeep Gill in the lead roles. The movie revolves around the lives of lovely and how her lies creates problems in other people’s lives.

9. Lock

This experimental movie by Smeep Kang stars Gippy Grewal, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Geeta Basra and Smeep himself in the lead roles. Inspired by the Malayalam film shutter, lock performed well at the box office. 

10. Sardaar Saab

This well written film by Amit Parashar is a remake of a Tamil hit Thalaivaa. Sardar Saab includes Jackie Shroff, Guggu Gill, Diljit Kalsi and Neetu Singh as the lead actors. Punjabi version of this movie did not reach the expectations at the box office.

11. Son of Manjit Singh

The movie stars Gurpreet Ghuggi, Japji Khaira Tania and Daman Preet Singh as a star cast. Directed by Vikram Grover this movie is the Kapil Sharma production. Son of Manjit Singh was inspired by Marathi classic Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho. 

12. Chandigarh Amritsar Chandigarh

Directed by Karan Gulyani Chandigarh Amritsar Chandigarh was the remake of a Marathi hit film Mumbai Pune Mumbai. Starring Gippy Grewal and Sargun Mehta, the Punjabi version of this film was further remade into a hindi film.

13. Singham

There are a total of three films with the same title Singham, one is a Punjab version and the others are the Marathi and Hindi versions with almost the same story. Directed by Navaniat Singh, The movie stars Parmish Verma, Sonam Bajwa and Kartar Cheema as the lead cast.

14. Lucky Di Unlucky Story

Starring Gippy Grewal, Surveen Chawla, Binnu Dhillon, Gurpreet Bhalla and Jackie Shroff in the lead roles, the Punjabi version of Lucky di unlucky story is directed by Smeep Kang. This movie was inspired by Tamil hit Panchathanthiram.

15. Aasra

Based on the same emotional subject as the movie Tulsi, this movie performed below average at the box office. The Punjabi version of the movie stars Guggu Gill and Rani Chatterjee.

16. Vaisakhi List

Smeep Kang’s Vaisakhi list was inspired by the hindi movie Run Bhola Run (did not release), which in turn was inspired by a Korean film jail breakers. The Punjabi version of the movie casts Jimmy Shergill, Sunil Grover and Shruti Sodhi. 

17. Carry On Jatta

The most evergreen movie of Punjabi cinema was inspired by another Hindi hit film Kuch to Gadbad Hai. Directed by Smeep Kang, Carry on Jatta stars Gippy Grewal, Mahie Gill, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Binnu Dhillon and Jaswinder Bhalla as the lead cast and is one of the biggest hit of our industry.

18. Mr and Mrs 420

With the same fun plot as the film Biwi Aur Makaan, Mr and Mrs 420 is directed by Kshitij Chaudhary. Starring Jassi Gill, Binu Dhillon, Babbal Rai, Yuvraj Hans, Jaswinder Bhalla & Shruti Sodhi in the lead roles, it is one of the classic films of our industry. 

19. Simran

Inspired by Rishi Kapoor and Juhi Chawla‘s Sajan Ka Ghar, this movie is a Darshan Bagga film. With the same plot used in many languages, Simran did not do well at the box office. Saadhika Randhawa and Guggu Gill are the lead roles of this movie.

20. Addi Tappa 

Not reaching the expectations at the box office this movie was directed by Jeet Matharu and was an experimental film. Starring Vibha Bhagat and Parul Kakra as the women in the lead roles, this movie was inspired by Priyadarshan’s Tamil film Snehithiye.

21. Uda-Aida

The superhit Uda Aida, directed by Kshitij Chaudhary is inspired by an evergreen Bollywood movie named Hindi medium. Neeru Bajwa, Tarsem Jassar, Gurpreet Ghuggi, B.N Sharma and Karamjit Anmol adds to the list of the lead cast of the movie.

22. Kala Shah Kala

Directed by Amarjit Singh, The lead cast of the movie includes Sargun Mehta, Jordan Sandhu, Karamjit Anmol, Anita Devgan and B.N. Sharma. Kala Shah Kala is inspired by the evergreen Hindi film Hum Dil De De Chuke Sanam.

23. Naukar Vahuti Da 

Binnu Dhillon, Jaswinder Bhalla, Gurpreet Ghuggi and Kulraj Randhawa as the star cast of the movie, it is directed by Smeep Kang. With the same entertaining plot as the movie Chachi 420, the movie did surprisingly well at the box office.

Some movies did not perform according to the expectations but some movies actually surpassed the expectations. Apart from the above mentioned movie there are few more Punjabi movies that are inspired by some regional films.
