Puri Rath Yatra 2025 Begins Today as Lakhs Gather for Divine Sibling Deities’ Grand Procession

The sacred city of Puri in Odisha is all set to host the grand Rath Yatra 2025 today, drawing lakhs of devotees from across the country and abroad. The iconic festival marks the annual ceremonial journey of Lord Jagannath, along with his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple.

This year’s Rath Yatra falls on June 27, and preparations have been in full swing to ensure smooth conduct of the spiritual event. The three majestic chariots, Nandighosha for Lord Jagannath, Taladhwaja for Lord Balabhadra, and Darpadalana for Devi Subhadra will be pulled by thousands of devotees along the 3-kilometer Grand Road (Bada Danda).

Elaborate arrangements have been made by the Odisha government, including tight security, medical aid, food stalls, drinking water facilities, and live telecast of the event for those who cannot attend in person. The chariots were constructed by skilled artisans in traditional styles, staying true to centuries-old practices.

The return journey, known as Bahuda Yatra, will take place on July 6, followed by the Suna Besha on July 7, when the deities are adorned with gold ornaments before being taken back to the main temple.

The Rath Yatra is not only a visual spectacle but also a symbol of inclusiveness, as devotees from all backgrounds come together to participate in this divine celebration of faith and devotion.
