A chilling sight from Navi Mumbai has taken the internet by storm, an enormous, venomous python was captured calmly swimming through flooded streets after heavy monsoon rains.
The video, originally shared on Instagram by user @sarpmitr_ashtvinayak_more with the caption “Rock Python..”, shows the massive snake gliding through stagnant water, its head bobbing eerily above the surface. With the road almost completely submerged, the unexpected sight of the python sent shockwaves across social media.
Since its posting, the clip has garnered over 6.7 million views and more than 268,000 likes, sparking a wave of mixed reactions from viewers—some alarmed, some amused.
One witty user commented, “Mujhe python aata h.. baat karke dekhu kya??” (I know Python. Should I talk to it?). Another questioned sarcastically, “Are people asking the snake to speak Marathi too? Or have they spared the animal?”
Other users expressed concern. “Poor thing looks traumatized,” one wrote, while another pleaded, “Call the forest department… it might get hurt by a vehicle.”
A more reflective viewer noted, “They’ve adapted to us. Let’s preserve natural spaces instead of overbuilding.”
Such sightings aren’t new. Last year, a six-foot Indian rock python was filmed crossing a road near Mumbai’s Aarey Colony after a downpour.
Experts explain that snakes often surface during or after rains as floods force them out of their underground shelters. These cold-blooded creatures also enjoy the cooler, moist environment post-rain, which aids their movement and hydration.
As urban expansion meets nature, such encounters highlight the need to balance development with environmental sensitivity.
