Rahul Gandhi has made serious allegations regarding the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections, claiming the polls were “rigged” and warning that the same tactics could be used in the upcoming Bihar elections.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha shared an article he authored, titled “How to steal an election?”, accusing the BJP of undermining democracy through a calculated strategy.
Gandhi detailed the alleged five-step method used to manipulate the election outcome: “Step 1: Rig the panel for appointing the Election Commission. Step 2: Add fake voters to the rolls. Step 3: Inflate voter turnout. Step 4: Target bogus voting in key BJP battlegrounds. Step 5: Hide the evidence.”
He emphasized that “rigging is like match-fixing”, even if the side cheating wins, it erodes institutions and damages public faith in democracy. “It’s easy to understand why BJP was so desperate in Maharashtra,” he added, while urging citizens to critically evaluate the evidence and demand accountability.
Gandhi concluded with a warning that the “match-fixing” of Maharashtra may be replicated in Bihar and elsewhere where BJP faces electoral setbacks. “Match-fixed elections are a poison for any democracy,” he said.
The 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections resulted in a sweeping victory for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance with 235 seats, while the Congress-backed Maha Vikas Aghadi suffered significant losses.
Responding to the claims, BJP leader Tuhin Sinha accused Rahul Gandhi of “demonising national institutions” and reiterated that the Election Commission of India had already addressed such concerns in detail.
