YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia and Apoorva Mukhija have been summoned by the National Commission for Women (NCW) and they appeared before the commission on 6 March, following backlash over controversial comments made during an episode of India’s Got Latent, hosted by Samay Raina. Their remarks, deemed insensitive and inappropriate, sparked outrage on social media, leading to widespread criticism.
The controversy erupted after Ranveer and Apoorva were accused of making misogynistic and disrespectful remarks towards women. The episode also featured content creators Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and host Samay Raina. One particular moment that went viral was when Ranveer asked a contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?”
The comment was met with significant backlash, with many accusing the YouTubers of promoting harmful ideologies and reinforcing gender stereotypes. In response, the NCW, responsible for safeguarding women’s rights and dignity, took immediate action by summoning both individuals to explain their statements.
This incident has reignited discussions about the ethical responsibility of influencers and content creators, highlighting the need for sensitivity and respect in digital conversations.
Following the controversy, Samay Raina removed all episodes of India’s Got Latent from his YouTube channel and assured full cooperation with the authorities. He admitted that handling the situation had been challenging. Meanwhile, Ranveer Allahbadia issued a public apology, acknowledging that his remarks were “not only inappropriate but also not funny at all.”
