What was meant to be a historic day of celebration in Bengaluru ended in deep sorrow. On June 4, a massive stampede broke out outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory celebration. The joyous occasion quickly turned into a tragedy, claiming 11 young lives and injuring 47 others. It was RCB’s maiden IPL title after 18 long years, but the celebrations were marred by chaos and heartbreak.
In response to the tragedy, the RCB franchise has stepped forward to help. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have announced a Rs 10 lakh aid for the 11 victims who lost their lives outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the team’s victory celebrations on Wednesday. The team has also launched an RCB Cares fund to support the medical treatment of those injured during the stampede.

But even as help begins to reach the victims and their families, serious questions are being raised about how such a disaster could happen. The RCB management is set to face official scrutiny over a social media post announcing a public victory parade, made just hours before a deadly stampede at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium that killed at least 11 people and left 47 injured.
The investigation will also cover the actions of senior members of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), who helped plan the felicitation event. The probe will also include senior members of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), whose role in planning the felicitation ceremony is now under review by Bengaluru Police and a magisterial inquiry panel.
As families grieve and a city tries to make sense of the loss, the focus has now shifted to accountability. How did a celebration become a nightmare? And how can such a tragedy be prevented in the future? These are the questions Bengaluru is asking today.
