Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are the new IPL champions and have taken home Rs 20 crore after winning the 18th season of the league. They beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by just six runs in a thrilling final on Tuesday, finally lifting their first-ever IPL trophy after 18 long years. The win also marked a huge moment for their star player, Virat Kohli.
Punjab Kings, who finished as runners-up, received Rs 12.5 crore. Mumbai Indians came third after losing in Qualifier 2 and were awarded Rs 7 crore. Gujarat Titans, who played in the Eliminator, took home Rs 6.5 crore.
IPL prize money has grown significantly over the years. In the first edition in 2008, the winning team received Rs 4.8 crore, and the runners-up got Rs 2.4 crore—much less than what teams earn now.
In another update, the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) has won the ‘Best Pitch and Ground’ award for the matches held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, which hosted seven league games this season. DDCA was also given Rs 50 lakh along with the award.
DDCA President Rohan Jaitley expressed his gratitude, stating, “This award is a testament to the tireless work of our curators, staff, and management. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards in cricket infrastructure.”
