Reason Why Diljit Dosanjh’s Team Was Denied Maharaja Of Patiala’s Cartier Necklace

At the Met Gala 2025, Diljit Dosanjh stole the spotlight, bringing a touch of Punjabi pride and royalty to Hollywood’s biggest fashion event. The singer and actor made a striking entrance wearing a turban (a symbol of Sikh identity), a traditional kurta, and a tehmat (draped bottoms), representing his cultural heritage. His look was a tribute to the Maharaja of Patiala, Sir Bhupinder Singh, who was known for his opulent style.

In an attempt to further honor the Maharaja, Diljit’s team sought to borrow the iconic 1,000-carat Cartier diamond necklace that was commissioned by the Maharaja in 1928, the largest necklace ever created by the French jeweller. However, as reported by The New York Times, their request was denied, as the necklace is securely housed in a museum.

Undeterred, Diljit’s team worked with Indian jeweller Golecha to create stunning pieces inspired by the Maharaja’s collection. The ensemble featured a jewel-studded turban, a layered diamond necklace, and a turban brooch. Additionally, Diljit carried a lion-headed, jewel-encrusted kirpan (sword), adding an extra touch of elegance and history to his regal look.

Despite not having the original Cartier necklace, Diljit’s ensemble successfully captured the essence of Punjabi royalty, leaving a lasting impression at the star-studded event.
