Delhi Police have identified the man behind the Red Fort Blast that killed 13 and injured 21 on Monday evening. The explosion, which occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station, has now been traced to Dr. Umar Un Nabi, a Pulwama-based doctor suspected to have terror links. Investigators believe Umar was behind the wheel of the Hyundai i20 when it exploded near Gate Number 1, marking one of the most serious terror incidents in Delhi in recent years connected to the Red Fort Blast.
How Police Traced The Car To Kashmir
According to Delhi Police’s Special Cell, tracking the car’s ownership became the key breakthrough in solving the Red Fort Blast case. Officers revealed that the vehicle, a Hyundai i20, was initially registered to a man named Salman, who later sold it to another individual named Devender. Devender then sold it to a man called Taariq — and from there, investigators discovered that the car was last with Umar.
Police later confirmed that Umar was inside the car when it exploded. He is believed to have been linked to the same terror module as his fellow doctors Muzammil Shakil and Adil Ahmed Rather, both from Jammu and Kashmir.
Terror Module Connection To Faridabad Seizure
Earlier, authorities in Faridabad had uncovered a massive 2,900 kg stockpile of ammonium nitrate and other explosives connected to the same terror network. This discovery followed the arrests of Muzammil and Adil in late October. Delhi Police now suspect Umar planned the Red Fort Blast after learning of his associates’ arrest.
A senior officer said, “Yes, Umar was driving the i20 and is likely dead. We are verifying this with doctors at the mortuary.” The probe is ongoing in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Intelligence Bureau.
Red Fort Blast Investigation
An FIR has been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections on murder and attempt to murder, and the Explosives Act. Investigators are also examining if the explosion occurred accidentally while transporting a live explosive device.
Preliminary analysis suggests that a high-intensity explosive like ammonia gel was used in the Red Fort Blast, given the magnitude and heat of the detonation.
