Rouse Avenue Court Approves FIR Plea Against Kejriwal for Misuse of Funds

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faces fresh legal trouble as the Rouse Avenue Court has approved a petition seeking an FIR against him and others for allegedly misusing public funds for hoardings in Dwarka. The case, dating back to 2019, involves allegations that Kejriwal, former AAP MLA Gulab Singh, and Dwarka Councillor Nitika Sharma used government funds to install large banners for political promotion.

Initially, in September 2022, a metropolitan magistrate dismissed the complaint. However, the sessions court later overturned this decision, instructing the magistrate to reexamine the matter. Now, acting on the sessions court’s order, the magistrate has agreed to reconsider the plea for registering an FIR.

The petition was filed under Section 156(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which allows a magistrate to direct the police to register an FIR and investigate a cognizable offense. The police have been instructed to file a compliance report by March 18.

This development comes as a setback for Kejriwal and his party, with the case resurfacing after nearly five years. As legal proceedings continue, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to face further scrutiny over the alleged misuse of public resources. The court’s decision to reopen the case could have significant political and legal implications in the coming days.
