RPG Firing At Police HQ, Mohali, “Investigation In Progress”, Says CM Mann

Just three days after the arrest of four suspected terrorists with IEDs at Karnal in Haryana, and nearly a fortnight after an explosive device was found near Burail jail in Chandigarh, a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) was fired at a high-security building housing Punjab police’s intelligence wing headquarters in Sector 77 of Mohali on Monday, landing on the third floor of the building but did not explode. It damaged a glass door and shattered window panes. No casualty was reported.

Amidst this, the Punjab Police secured the area. Senior officers, forensic teams and a bomb disposal squad were seen scouring for evidence.

“There was a minor explosion on the third floor of our intelligence headquarters around 7. 45pm. There is no damage. We are investigating,” said DGP VK Bhawra said.

Meanwhile, Former Punjab deputy CM and senior Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said in a tweet:

“The bomb blast in Mohali is a sign of deep communalism. I strongly condemn this incident and urge the @PunjabGovtIndia to investigate and take stern action against those who are intent on disturbing the peace of Punjab”

On the other hand, Delhi chief minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has condemned the Mohali blast; tweets, “will punish the culprits.”

On the entire incident, Punjab CM Bhawant Mann has said that the Punjab Police is investigating the explosion at the Intelligence Wing headquarters in Mohali and stressed that anyone trying to disturb peace in the state will not be spared.
