Netizens Are Highly Disappointed As India Rejects RRR For Oscars Over THIS Gujarati Film

Many prediction lists came and made headlines which assured fans that SS Rajamouli’s RRR is a strong movie with a high possibility to win an Oscar Award. But unfortunately, the Film Federation of India has rejected the film as its official entry for the Oscars. Yes, you read that right. The statement might be shocking but is absolutely true.

Recently India announced Gujarati Film Chhello Show as its official entry for the Oscars. And this means RRR is no longer eligible to be nominated for the Oscar Best International Film Award. This official decision has adversely disappointed the netizens and has ignited a massive outrage. People on the internet are expressing their anger against the decision.

This is probably the first time in India when people are not talking about the film which is rejected for the Oscars but are busy defending and supporting a film which has been rejected. Every fan who has watched RRR starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan knows the film was a treat to watch. From great VFX to a gripping story and astonishing performances, everything about RRR was just perfect. Hence, it was obvious for fans to expect the Film Federation of India (FFI) to choose the film as its official Oscars entry.

Hashtags like #RRRForOscars #RRRMovie #NtrForOscar and more are trending on Twitter and other social media platforms. A senior Hollywood journalist Clayton Davis also took it to his official Twitter account to post his comment about the same. He not only wrote about his disappointment after knowing RRR’s rejection but also mentioned that India has done a similar kind of mistake in the past also when it did not select The Lunchbox for the Oscars.

On the other hand, film critic Guy Lodge also shared a tweet participating in the hot online debate.

The tweets by international film experts have attracted opinions and thousands of comments from Indian fans. While the netizens are busy criticizing India’s decision, other people are also disappointed as Gujarati Film Chhello Show indeed was a great film, but is said to be an unofficial remake of an Italian film ‘Cinema Paradiso’.

But fortunately, there are still some chances for RRR to make a wildcard entry for the 95th Academy Awards. The US distributor, Variance Films, for RRR has requested the Academy to consider the film ‘in all categories.

Speaking to Variety, Variance Films president Dylan Marchetti said, “Over the last six months, we have seen the joy that SS Rajamouli’s RRR has brought to global audiences. We have seen the film gross over $140 million worldwide to become one of India’s highest-grossing films of all time and become the first film in history to trend globally on Netflix for over 14 weeks.”
