Corruption allegations continue to trouble Aam Aadmi Party leaders, with former Delhi Health Minister Satyender Jain facing fresh accusations related to a ₹571 crore CCTV project. The Delhi government’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a case under Section 17 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, citing bribery claims linked to project delays.
Jain is accused of accepting ₹7 crore in bribes to waive a ₹16 crore penalty imposed due to delays in installing over one lakh CCTV cameras across Delhi’s 70 Assembly constituencies. The case, pending since May 2023, has gained momentum based on the testimony of an officer from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), who provided a detailed complaint. The officer alleged that after delays in the initial installation, an additional 1.4 lakh cameras were ordered despite concerns over poor quality.

The BJP’s Delhi unit chief, Virendra Sachdeva, criticized AAP over these allegations, claiming the party tried to suppress the investigation. “Tender of Rs 571 crore was given to Bharat Electronics Limited and then, to waive off losses, he (Mr Jain) took Rs 7 crore bribe. BJP had complained then also… the AAP tried to suppress investigation,” he stated.
Jain, who was granted bail in October last year after being arrested in a money laundering case, is also facing prosecution in a disproportionate assets case, which was approved by President Droupadi Murmu last month.
Meanwhile, AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia are entangled in legal troubles of their own. Kejriwal faces a six-year-old case for allegedly misusing public funds for political promotions, while Sisodia is accused of involvement in a ₹2,000 crore scam related to school classroom construction. Both remain under scrutiny for their alleged roles in the Delhi liquor excise policy case, with a recent CAG report stating that the state lost ₹2,002 crore due to irregularities.
AAP has dismissed all accusations, claiming they are politically motivated attempts by the BJP to damage its reputation. The party has also denied allegations that Kejriwal misused ₹45 crore of taxpayer money for renovations at his official residence.
Despite its denials, AAP suffered a major setback in the recent Assembly elections, with the BJP securing 48 of Delhi’s 70 seats, ending the party’s long-held control over the government.
