SC’s Bail To Fact-Checker Mohd Zubair In All Six FIRs In Uttar Pradesh

Mohammed Zubair, the co-founder of ALT News, has been granted bail by the Supreme Court on Wednesday in all six charges brought against him in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments through his tweets. The apex court also consolidated all FIRs filed against him in Uttar Pradesh with the complaint filed in Delhi and ruled that any additional FIRs would be consolidated with the FIR in Delhi.

Mohammad Zubair has also been allowed by the Supreme Court to approach the Delhi High Court for quashing any new or all FIRs against him. A Special Investigation Team of the UP police that had been set up by the state government to look into the FIRs filed against Zubair has also been dismissed by the Supreme Court.

Interestingly, the SC stated that this relief would apply to all FIRs that would be filed in the future about the same topic relating to the tweets he posted. Thus, all upcoming FIRs filed anywhere in the nation would be automatically transferred to the Delhi police.

Alt news co-founder Mohammed Zubair had five FIRs filed against him in Uttar Pradesh. A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and AS Bopanna had stayed precipitative action against him on Monday, stating that it appeared he was being taken into custody in another FIR if he got bail in one and that the content of the FIRs appeared to be similar.

“All FIRs appear to have similar content. It appears that he is being held in one instance while receiving bail in another. This vicious cycle is still continuing, “Justice Chandrachud added.
