A sessions court in Mumbai has upheld actor Aditya Pancholi’s conviction in a 2005 parking assault case but has modified his sentence. While the magistrate had sentenced him to one year of simple imprisonment, the sessions court granted him relief under the Probation of Offenders Act, allowing his release on a bond of good behavior.
However, the court directed the 59-year-old actor to compensate the victim, Pratik Pashine, with ₹1.5 lakh as a condition for availing this benefit.
In November 2016, the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Andheri had found Pancholi guilty under Section 325 of the Indian Penal Code (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and sentenced him to a year in jail for assaulting Pashine over a parking dispute in 2005.
Challenging the ruling, Pancholi had filed an appeal against both his conviction and sentence. On Thursday, Additional Sessions Judge D.G. Dhoble partly allowed his appeal, affirming the conviction but ruling that he need not serve the jail term.
