‘Emergency’: SGPC And SAD Demand A Ban On Emergency Film Starring Kangana Ranaut, Allegedly Defaming Sikh Community

Protests have started in Punjab even before the release of actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’. On Wednesday, SGPC and SAD demanded a ban on the film from the Central Government and the Censor Board, alleging that the film has misrepresented the character of Sikhs.

SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the sentiments of Sikhs have been hurt due to the wrong portrayal of the character of Sikhs in the film, hence the Censor Board should immediately ban the film.

On one hand, the Punjabi film based on the life of human rights advocate Jaswant Singh Khalda, a Punjabi film, is not being given approval for release despite 85 cuts.

SAD chief Sukhbir Badal demanded registration of a case against actress Kangana Ranaut under section 295A. SAD MP from Bathinda Harsimrat Kaur Badal has also termed BJP MP Kangana Ranaut as anti-Sikh and demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ban her film ‘Emergency’.

She was talking to journalists after paying obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib. She said that the release of such a film which defames the Sikh community can spoil the atmosphere of the country, hence the Central Government and the Censor Board should not approve it.
