Mohammed Shami put on an exceptional bowling display during India’s Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh in Dubai, setting new records. He claimed 5 wickets for 53 runs in 10 overs, helping India bowl out Bangladesh for just 228 runs. In doing so, Shami became the fastest bowler to reach 200 ODI wickets, surpassing Mitchell Starc’s previous record. He achieved the milestone in only 5126 balls, a feat that added another feather to his cap.
Not only did Shami break the world record, but he also became the fastest Indian bowler to reach 200 ODI wickets, accomplishing the feat in his 104th match. This performance also made him the joint second-fastest bowler to reach the 200-wicket milestone in ODI history. Additionally, Shami became the first Indian bowler to claim 60 wickets in ICC ODI tournaments, surpassing Zaheer Khan’s previous record of 59 wickets.
Bangladesh were in deep trouble early in their innings, finding themselves at 35 for 5. However, Towhid Hridoy (100) and Jaker Ali (68) provided some much-needed resistance, stitching a 154-run partnership. Despite their efforts, Bangladesh could only manage to reach 228. Alongside Shami’s remarkable performance, Harshit Rana took 3 wickets, while Axar Patel claimed 2. Shami’s outstanding bowling effort not only helped India secure the win but also etched his name in the cricketing history books for his remarkable achievements.
