In a decisive move to counter Pakistan-sponsored terrorism on the global stage, the Indian government has announced the formation of seven high-level delegations comprising Members of Parliament from across party lines. These all-party groups will represent India internationally, conveying a united national front against terrorism.
As per the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the objective behind this diplomatic initiative is to reflect India’s unwavering stance and collective resolve in addressing terrorism in all its manifestations.
“They would carry forth to the world the country’s strong message of zero-tolerance against terrorism,” the official release stated.
Each delegation will include MPs from various political parties, seasoned diplomats, and prominent political figures. The government has confirmed the leaders of these seven delegations:
- Shashi Tharoor – Congress
- Ravi Shankar Prasad – BJP
- Sanjay Kumar Jha – JDU
- Baijayant Panda – BJP
- Kanimozhi Karunanidhi – DMK
- Supriya Sule – NCP
- Shrikant Eknath Shinde – Shiv Sena
According to reports from ANI, approximately 40 MPs representing different parties will be divided into seven groups, each consisting of around seven to eight members. These delegations are expected to visit four to five countries during a 10-day tour that begins on May 23. Key destinations likely include global capitals such as the United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, and Japan.
This initiative marks the first time the Indian government has dispatched multi-party parliamentary delegations abroad to articulate the country’s position on the Kashmir issue and cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan. The remaining members of the seven teams are yet to be announced.
