The sudden death of Shefali Jariwala, best known for her role in the hit song “Kaanta Laga”, has once again raised concerns about the growing number of heart attacks among young adults in India. Reports say the 41-year-old died of a heart attack last week — shocking many, especially since she seemed fit and healthy.
This tragic incident has sparked an important question: is looking fit on the outside enough to be truly healthy?
Dr. Dhirendra Singhania, a leading heart specialist at Yashoda Super Speciality Hospital, told NDTV that many hidden lifestyle habits can increase the risk of heart disease. He explained that common causes include the use of steroids, hormonal therapies (especially in women), and poor sleep. “People, including celebrities, often do a lot to maintain a fit look, but we don’t always know what methods they use. Many stay up late or don’t sleep properly, which harms the heart,” he said.
He added that hormone therapies like HRT or oral contraceptives, along with drug misuse and constant stress, also raise the risk. Even things like social media addiction can quietly damage our health by raising blood pressure and stress hormone levels.
Dr. Singhania even shared the case of a 36-year-old man who recently survived a heart attack. The man had no history of smoking, drinking, or any known medical issue — yet still suffered a serious cardiac episode.
His message is clear: true health goes beyond appearances. Sleep, stress levels, and what we consume all play a big role in keeping our hearts safe.
