Shiv Sena Leader Rahool Kanal and 11 Others Arrested for Vandalizing Comedy Venue

Mumbai Police on Monday arrested Shiv Sena functionary Rahool Kanal along with 11 others for vandalizing a hotel in Mumbai where comedian Kunal Kamra had made controversial remarks about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. A local court, however, granted them bail the same day.

Kamra, during his stand-up act at the Habitat Comedy Club in Unicontinental Hotel, Khar, had referred to Shinde as a gaddar (traitor) and performed a parody about him. Angered by these remarks, Shiv Sena workers, led by Kanal, stormed the venue on Sunday, damaging the premises.

Khar Police have identified 19 individuals in connection with the incident, naming them in an FIR, while another 15-20 individuals involved remain unidentified.

On Monday, authorities arrested 12 people, all linked to the Shinde-led Sena, and presented them before the magistrate’s court in Bandra. While the court initially remanded them to 14-day judicial custody, they secured bail the same day upon furnishing a cash bond of ₹15,000 each.
