Shreyas Iyer Fined Rs 12 Lakh for Slow Over Rate During Match

Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer has been penalized by the BCCI for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 49 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The violation came after PBKS failed to maintain the required over rate, resulting in a ₹12 lakh fine for Iyer.

“Shreyas Iyer, Captain, Punjab Kings has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 49 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday. As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined INR 12 Lakh,” the BCCI said in an official statement.

The fine is unlikely to concern Iyer much, given the nature of the offence and the outcome of the match. Since it was a first-time slow over-rate offence this season, the penalty did not carry any demerit points. Moreover, Iyer played a key role in PBKS’s victory, scoring a fiery 72 off 41 deliveries.

Punjab Kings chased down a 191-run target, ending the game at 194/6 with two balls to spare. The turnaround was largely powered by a stunning bowling performance from Yuzvendra Chahal, who claimed 4 wickets for 32 runs, including a memorable hat-trick.

Despite a slight hiccup in the final overs, Iyer’s side emerged victorious, keeping their playoff hopes alive and further establishing their momentum in the tournament.
