Sri Lanka: Protestors Breaks Into The President’s Residence, 7 Injured

Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the President of Sri Lanka, has left his residence after being surrounded by thousands of protestors, resulting in a heavy clash between the agitators and the policemen. As per the media reports, 7 people including 2 police officials suffered injuries. 

As per the media reports, thousands of agitators surrounded the residence of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and clashed with the security personnel. They even breached the barricades to break down into the President house in Colombo, the country capital. Though the president already had left his official residence on Friday, suspecting anything troublesome would happen as a rally was planned on the weekend. 

The protestors were raising the slogans against the Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and went live on Facebook. A lot of videos went viral across the social media where thousands of protestors can be seen, breaking into the official residence of the President of Sri Lanka. 

The police officials even fired some shots in the air but it wasn’t sufficient to block the angry protestors from surrounding the President’s residence. These people have been continuously demanding the resignation of Gotabaya Rajapaksa from the president post since March, since the country started suffering through the economic crisis resulting in high inflation. 

The condition of Sri Lanka has worsened due to the ongoing economic crisis which resulted in high inflation and closure of the schools. Though President Gotabaya Rajapaksa left his residence a day before the protests, challenges for him are set to increase in the coming days.
