Stubble Burning: Punjab Records Highest Daily Farm Fires At 3,600!!

Stubble burning has always been the most important issues in Punjab. Moreover, the state as well as the Central government have been trying their best to reduce stubble burning, however, it still seems to rise. Shockingly, on Wednesday, Punjab recorded the most stubble burning cases in a single day this season at 3,634. Prior to this, there had been 2,131 farm fires reported in Punjab on Monday.

Moreover, the farm fires are increasing now as the burning season is at its peak. Meanwhile, this entire situation has taken a political turn as the opposition parties including BJP, SAD and the Congress party have slammed the Aam Aadmi Party over the issue. On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party has blamed the BJP for targeting Punjab’s farmers.

Notably, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann has said that the BJP-led central government has been holding a grudge against the farmers of Punjab due to their protest against the three farm laws which were repealed later. Furthermore, CM Mann, citing the AQI figures of various cities in Haryana with the worst air quality, asked, “Why Punjab and Delhi are only blamed for air pollution?”

He further stated that the farmers of Punjab have no one option than stubble burning. “The central government neither offers them an MPS nor introduces any solution for stubble burning, and then urges the Punjab government to coordinate with the farmers and control the stubble burning!” Moreover, this has turned into a war of words between the AAP and the opposition, especially the BJP.

CM Mann even asserted, “We asked the Central government to give ₹1,500 per acre to the farmers, but it refused. We even requested the Centre to support the biogas sector, but nothing happened,” he added. “The Punjab farmers are being blamed by the Centre despite reports of stubble burning in Rajasthan, Haryana, and the United States as well,” said CM Mann.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party stated that the stubble burning in Haryana is the reason behind Delhi’s pollution, however, with more than 3,600 cases, stubble burning is once again the most burning issue in Punjab.
