On Monday, the Supreme Court allowed podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia to retrieve his passport, enabling him to travel abroad for work. The decision followed confirmations from the Assam and Maharashtra governments that the investigation against him was complete. Allahbadia was instructed to contact the Maharashtra Cyber Police Bureau for his passport’s return.
The bench, led by Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh, also stated that they would consider Allahbadia’s request to consolidate the multiple FIRs filed against him during the next hearing.
Earlier, on February 18, the court granted Allahbadia protection from arrest in connection with several FIRs stemming from comments he made on a YouTube show. He was ordered to deposit his passport with the police. In March, Allahbadia was permitted to resume his podcast, “The Ranveer Show,” on the condition that it adhered to “morality and decency.”
Allahbadia, known as BeerBiceps, was booked for comments made on “India’s Got Latent,” a show hosted by comic Samay Raina, which discussed parents and sex. While the Supreme Court had called his remarks “vulgar” and stated they brought shame to society, it allowed him to continue his podcast with restrictions. Other individuals named in the case include comics Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija.
