Suryakumar Yadav Crosses 8000 T20 Runs as MI Crushes KKR in IPL 2024

Suryakumar Yadav has etched his name in history as the fifth Indian batter to surpass 8,000 T20 runs, achieving this milestone during Mumbai Indians’ emphatic 8-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in the 18th edition of the IPL. His explosive cameo played a crucial role in guiding MI to their first win of the season.

The match was one-sided as MI dominated the defending champions. Suryakumar’s innings, though brief, was impactful—he remained unbeaten on 27 off just nine balls, smashing three boundaries and two towering sixes at a staggering strike rate of 300. He also hit the winning runs, sealing a memorable win for his side.

This milestone places Suryakumar among elite company in Indian T20 cricket. Leading the chart is Virat Kohli with 12,976 runs, followed by Rohit Sharma with 11,851. Shikhar Dhawan holds third place with 9,797, while Suresh Raina sits fourth with 8,654 runs.

MI’s victory further strengthened their dominance over KKR in IPL history. It marked their 24th win over the Kolkata franchise—the most by any team against a single opponent. Additionally, at Wankhede Stadium, MI secured their 10th win over KKR, setting a new record for most victories against a team at a single venue.

Fans had expected a high-scoring contest given the power-packed lineups, but it was MI’s 23-year-old debutant, Ashwani Kumar, who turned the game on its head. The left-arm pacer dismantled KKR’s batting order with a sensational four-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 4/24. His fiery spell restricted KKR to a meager 116.

Chasing the modest target, Ryan Rickelton took charge with an unbeaten 62, ensuring MI cruised to victory, ending their two-match losing streak in style.
