Who is Shreegauri Sawant?
Shreegauri Sawant is a founder of Sakhi Char Chowghi, an organization that aids transgenders and people with HIV/AIDS. In 2014, Gauri became the first transgender to file a petition in the Supreme Court for the adoption of rights for transgenders.
When Supreme Court recognized Transgenders as the third gender, Gauri Sawant was a petitioner in the National Legal Services Authority. She also adopted a daughter 2008, Gayatri Sawant, after the latter’s mother, a s*x worker died because of AIDS.
