Terror Cache Found in Punjab Amid India-Pakistan Tensions After Pahalgam Attack Escalation

In a significant breakthrough amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, security forces in Punjab recovered a cache of terror-related equipment, including grenades and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), during a forest search operation. The crackdown follows the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 civilian lives and escalated regional hostilities.

The joint operation led to the seizure of two rocket-propelled grenades, two IEDs, five P-86 hand grenades, and a wireless communication set. Authorities believe this signals an attempt by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and affiliated terror groups to reawaken dormant sleeper cells within Punjab. According to the state’s Director General of Police, preliminary findings suggest a coordinated plot by these networks.

Tensions surged following the April 22 attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, claimed by Lashkar-e-Taiba’s proxy, The Resistance Front. In its aftermath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted India’s resolve to take “firm and decisive action” against terrorism and those supporting it. Security forces have since intensified operations, demolishing homes of at least 10 terrorists in Kashmir and implementing sweeping diplomatic and economic countermeasures. These included cancelling visas, suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, shutting down trade routes, and closing Indian airspace to Pakistan-linked aircraft.

In response to the evolving threat landscape, the Union Home Ministry recently instructed all states to ramp up preparedness. “New and complex threats” have prompted large-scale mock drills, featuring air-raid warning sirens, civil defence training, and refurbishment of bunkers and trenches. The directive comes as unprovoked cross-border firing along the Line of Control has persisted for twelve consecutive nights. In response, civilians have begun clearing out personal bunkers to prepare for potential escalation.
