Texas Tragedy: 46 Migrants Found Dead In A Truck; “Alleged Human Smuggling”, Said Officials

San Antonio, US: According to the authorities, up to 46 individuals were discovered dead and 16 others were sent to the hospital after a tractor trailer allegedly carrying migrants was discovered on Monday in southwest San Antonio.

As per the media reports, the Fire Chief Charles Hood has said that twelve adults and four children were among the 16 hospitalized migrants with heat-related disorders, adding that there was no water in the trailer and that the patients suffered heat stroke and were dehydrated.

Police Chief William McManus claims that a city employee heard the cries for help at 6:00 PM on Monday. When the authorities arrived, they discovered a body outside the trailer. Three persons have been detained by the police so far, and authorities believe this case may be linked with human  trafficking, though nothing is clear yet.

Fire Chief Charles Hood said that the patients he and his team encountered were “hot to the touch, suffering from heat stroke, and exhausted. “Despite being a refrigerated tractor-trailer, the truck had no visible operating air conditioning equipment,” he further added.

Marcelo Ebrard, the foreign minister of Mexico, called it a “tragedy in texas”.

A record number of migrants have crossed into the United States from Mexico in the recent months, which has spurred criticism of U.S. President Joe Biden’s immigration policies. This is not the first time that such a tragedy has occurred; in 2017, a vehicle with 10 dead immigrants was also discovered and even before that, such cases were discovered.

In 2003, 19 migrants were found in a truck southeast of San Antonio. The administration is worried about cases of migrants attempting to breach the United States-Mexico border.
