The Real Truth Behind Ghost Of Kyiv, Who Brought Down 6 Russian Fighter Jets

As we all know the world is in deep stress due to the Russia-Ukraine war, many innocent people have lost their lives and families. But amid the war, there’s a heart-winning video from Ukraine that has been surfacing all over social media. 

In one widely shared video, a fighter plane off Ukraine chases down a Russian plane and then shoots it out of the sky. In Ukrainian, a voice says, “There’s a plane. There’s another one. It’s about to crash.” He is given the name “The Ghost of Kyiv”. The ghost is being declared the first Ukrainian air ace since the Second World War.

The fighter who is known as the “Ghost of Kyiv”, is said to have single-handedly brought down six Russian planes since the invasion began. The story has mostly spread via social media, with videos and photos that appear to show the pilot in action posted by Kyiv residents.

Ukraine’s former President Petro Poroshenko put out a picture of a fighter pilot in full battle gear in a cockpit calling him the ‘Ghost of Kyiv’, claiming that he took down six Russian aircraft.

But the video is not real. This is a sequence from the video game Digital Combat Simulator World. According to the reports from Reuters, “This footage is from DCS, but is nevertheless made out of respect for the ‘Ghost of Kyiv’”. The person who uploaded the video to YouTube on February 24 writes, using an alternate transliteration for Ukraine’s capital. “If he is real, may God be with him; if he is fake, I pray for more like him.”

The video has likely turned out to be an urban legend. Some military analysts have said it is nonetheless serving as a massive morale booster for the Ukrainian forces in the face of overwhelming odds. It helps Ukrainians stay optimistic despite the big threat that they face.
