The US Congress erupted in cheers as President Donald Trump fulfilled 13-year-old DJ Daniel’s dream of becoming a police officer by appointing him an honorary Secret Service agent.
Sharing DJ’s story, Trump revealed that the young boy had been diagnosed with brain cancer and given only five months to live. As his father lifted him up, the entire House responded with thunderous applause.
“Tonight, DJ, we’re going to do you the biggest honor of them all. I am asking our new Secret Service director Sean Curran to officially make you an agent of the United States Secret Service. Thank you, DJ,” Trump announced during his first speech before Congress since being re-elected. He noted that DJ had “always dreamed of becoming a police officer.”
Sean Curran, who gained national attention for shielding Trump when a gunman opened fire during a campaign event in Pennsylvania last year, stepped forward and presented DJ with a badge, solidifying the honorary title.
Trump also extended a life-changing opportunity to high school senior Jason Hartley, who had long aspired to attend the US Military Academy at West Point. Turning to Hartley, Trump said, “Your application has been accepted,” highlighting that the young man’s “greatest dream” was to follow in his father’s footsteps. DJ and Hartley later shared a celebratory high five.
Declaring “America is back,” Trump used the speech to outline his vision for the country, despite immediate resistance from Democrats. He praised his billionaire adviser Elon Musk, who was present at the event, and confidently stated that after less than two months back in office, he was “just getting started.” With a bold tone, he assured the nation, “The American dream is unstoppable.”
