President Donald Trump’s approval rating has declined to 42%, marking the lowest point since his return to the White House in January 2025. This decrease follows a previous rating of 43% three weeks prior and 47% immediately after his inauguration.
Despite the downturn, Trump’s approval remains higher than former President Joe Biden’s ratings throughout his tenure. The decline is attributed to public unease over Trump’s recent executive actions, including efforts to expand presidential authority and influence over private institutions.
A significant 83% of poll respondents believe the president must adhere to federal court rulings. Additionally, 57%-including one-third of Republicans-disagree with withholding university funding based on ideological differences. Furthermore, 66% oppose presidential control over cultural institutions like national museums and theaters.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted over six days, surveyed 4,306 adults with a margin error of ±2 percentage points.
