Uber for Teens Launches in India with Safety Features for Parental Control

Uber has introduced its ‘Uber for Teens’ service in India, offering a safe and supervised transportation option for teenagers aged 13 to 17. Initially launched in the United States in 2023, this safety-focused feature has since expanded to over 50 countries worldwide. The service enables parents and guardians to create dedicated teen accounts, allowing their teenagers to book rides independently while maintaining parental oversight.

According to a ‘TechCrunch’ report, Uber has started piloting the service in ‘Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Mumbai’ with plans to extend it to 35 more cities in the coming weeks. Cities like ‘Ahmedabad, Chennai, and Hyderabad’ are among those set to receive the service soon.

How Uber for Teens Works

To set up the service, parents or guardians can ‘invite their teenager’ by adding their contact details. Once the teenager accepts the invitation, a special ‘teen account’ is created with built-in ‘safety features’ and ‘ride monitoring tools’ for guardians.

Notably, both ‘parents and teenagers’ can request rides through this service. In India, guardians must first ‘link a debit or credit card’ to their account before inviting a teenager to join the family profile. However, after the account is set up, teenagers have the flexibility to ‘choose their preferred payment method’ for rides. Additionally, parents can control the number of trips a teenager can book per month, ensuring responsible usage.

With this launch, Uber aims to offer convenient yet secure mobility solutions for teenagers, while giving parents peace of mind through real-time tracking and control features.
