UK Rolls Out Strict Age Checks on Porn Sites to Shield Minors

UK porn age verification system screen asking for ID on adult site

The UK has officially rolled out strict online rules to keep minors off porn websites. Under the new Online Safety Act, all adult sites must verify users’ age using secure tech—ending the long-standing workaround where clicking “Yes, I’m 18+” was enough. This marks a major shift in digital policy and enforcement of UK porn age verification.

From July 25, platforms are now legally required to confirm users are adults before granting access. Verification methods include biometric scans, government ID checks, or approved third-party tools. Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator, is in charge of enforcing the law. Non-compliant sites could face fines up to £18 million or risk being blocked entirely.

This move has sparked both praise and concern—parents and child safety groups call it overdue, while privacy advocates worry about data misuse. But for now, the UK is making it clear: casual underage access to explicit content is no longer tolerated, thanks to UK porn age verification.
