The prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2023 opening ceremony was a star-studded affair, with Indian celebrities gracing the red carpet. Among them, the radiant Esha Gupta and the enchanting Sara Ali Khan left the crowd in awe with their stunning appearances, setting the tone for a night filled with glamour and elegance. However, Urvashi Rautela’s Cannes outfit became a head-turner leaving the internet baffled.
The actress slipped into a billowing pink ruffled gown from the label Sima Couture. The strapless tulle gown featured sparkling embellishments on the bodice and flowed into a tiered silhouette. But that’s not what has caught the internet’s eyes. Instead, it is her ‘Crocodile necklace’ that the netizens can’t stop talking about. Urvashi completed her Cannes Day 1 look with a chunky choker with a crocodile-inspired design wrapped around her neck. However, while some hailed her extravagant outfit as ‘beautiful,’ others could not accept her choice of jewelry, which included a golden lizard necklace and matching earrings.
Urvashi shared photos of her outfit on Instagram, to which one user commented, “Gale mein chipkali agar zinda ho gai toh photoshoot chod kar aise bhagoge aap (You will run away from the photoshoot, if that lizard around your neck ‘wakes up’).” Another said, “I cannot unsee that lizard necklace… so wild…” Some users couldn’t digest it and asked, “What is that around her neck?” However, some liked her Cannes look and called her the Queen of Cannes 2023‘. Another commented, “You nailed it, such a great look.” A fan commented, ‘So finally, @urvashirautela is creating history again at Cannes”.
Urvashi attended the film festival as part of the photocall launch for her upcoming project, touted as a biopic on the iconic late actress Parveen Babi. Sharing her excitement about the role, the actor had said in a recent statement, “Yes, you’ve heard right. I’ve officially signed and will be leading the Parveen Babi biopic as an actress. I’m truly grateful to the Cannes Film Festival, as it’s one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world and a significant career milestone.”
Some of the other big names set to attend the film festival include Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Sharma, and Mrunal Thakur. The 76th Cannes Film Festival is held at Cannes’ Palais des Festivals et des Congrès from May 16 to May 27.
