“In US We Dance to the Beats of Diljit Dosanjh”: US State Secretary Antony Blinken tells PM Modi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on his first designated state visit to USA. The state visit is a symbolic gesture signifying the importance the US places on the relationship with the visiting nation. On Thursday, June 22, PM Modi was invited for a state dinner with President Joe Biden after a historic summit. US President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken hosted a luncheon on Friday June 23 for our prime minister Narendra Modi. 

Antony Blinken appreciated the Indian culture and said ” Here in the US, India is part of our daily lives. We enjoy our Jhumpa Lahiri’s novels over samosas. We laugh at the comedies of Mindy Kaling.” He also said “We dance to the beats of Diljit at Coachella. We keep ourselves more or less fit and healthy doing Yoga,”

Along with the Indian Prime Minister, other prominent personalities like Industrialist Billionaire Mukesh Ambani  Apple CEO Tim Cook, Google CEO Sundar Pichai also attended the state dinner which was hosted by the President Joe Biden on Thursday at the White House. 

The Kamala Harris’ office tweeted, “The US-India partnership is stronger than ever. Together, our nations will shape the future as we work to create a more prosperous, secure, and healthy world”. It also added ” The partnership between the United States and India is one of the most important of the 21st century, and this visit will take our partnership to the next level — from space to defence, to emerging technology and supply chains.”

PM Modi thanked Kamala Harris for her remarks and responded with a tweet that read, “Our partnership indeed holds immense potential for this century. I am equally enthusiastic about elevating our cooperation in futuristic sectors.”

Kamala Harris is the first female vice president of the US and highest ranking female official in the US history. She is also the first African American and Asian American vice president.
