Vinod Sehwag, brother of former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag, was arrested on Thursday in connection with a cheque bounce case. His arrest follows a 2023 court ruling that declared him and two others as offenders for failing to appear in legal proceedings.
The Manimajra police in Chandigarh took Vinod into custody, along with Vishnu Mittal and Sudhir Malhotra. All three are directors of Xalta Food and Beverages Company. According to News18 Hindi, the complaint was filed by Krishna Mohan Khanna, the owner of Shree Naina Plastics.
Khanna alleged that Xalta Food and Beverages had purchased goods worth ₹7 crore from his Himachal Pradesh-based factory and made payments via cheques, which later bounced due to insufficient funds. The company reportedly issued seven cheques of ₹1 crore each. Despite receiving legal notices, the accused failed to take action, leading the court to declare them fugitives in 2022.
Following the court’s directive, Manimajra police registered a case against the three on September 25, 2023, under Section 174 of the Indian Penal Code for disobedience to a court order. Vinod Sehwag has now applied for bail, and the court has directed the police to submit a response by March 10, 2025.
