He was asked to resign from the Ministry and expelled from the party for his controversial remarks on Indian-born British-American  novelit, Salman Rushdie.

He returned to politics in 2018, joining Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf and was re-elected to  The National Assembly.

He left the party and resigned from his position in the National Assembly  in October, 2021.

He was thrice included in the list of 500  Most Influential Muslims Worldwide.

He was also among the 100 Most Popular Personalities of Pakistan.

He was also a top rated TV host and hosted many popular Pakistani Shows.

He remained in controversies throughout his political and TV career due to his remarks, often leading to charges of Hate Speech against him.
