Google celebrated Indian mathematician Satyendra Nath Bose with a doodle on June 4.

In 1924, on the same day, Bose sent his quantum formulation to Albert Einstein who immediately recognised it as a significant discovery in quantum mechanics.

Bose was born on 1st January, 1894 to a Bengali family in Kolkata.

He was brilliant at studies & his father encouraged him to study mathematics.

Bose pursued a Bachelor of Science degree at Calcutta’s Presidency College and earned a Master’s in Applied Mathematics at the University of Calcutta.

In 1917, Bose began giving lectures on physics where he developed his own quantum theory which was recognised by Einstein & now it is known as  Bose-Einstein statistics.

He is best known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s.

In 1954, Govt. of India awarded him the Padma Vibhushan. He was a fellow of the Royal Society too.

The Govt. of India also appointed Bose as National Professor, the highest honour in India for scholars.

To honor Bose’s legacy, any particle that obeys the Bose Einstein statistics is called a Boson.
