What A Coincidence! Navjot Sidhu And Daler Mehndi In Same Barrack In Patiala Jail

Renowned Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi has been lodged in Punjab’s Patiala jail on Thursday after Patiala’s lower court sentenced him to a 2-year jail term in the 2003 human trafficking case. Coincidentally, Daler Mehndi has been allotted the same barrack where former PPCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu is lodged.

As per the media reports, Daler Mehndi is kept in ward number 10 where Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu is also undergoing his sentence in the roadage case of 1988. While senior Akali leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia has been kept in the neighbouring barrack.

Around two decades back, Daler Mehndi and his brother Shamsher Singh were charged with soliciting “passage money” to transport individuals abroad, primarily to the US and Canada, using the “troupe” route. Others claimed they took money but broke their pledge, despite the fact that they did really take some persons.

In 2003, on the complaint of Bakshish Singh of Balvera Village, Sanaur, at Patiala’s Sadar Police station, Daler Mehndi, his brother Shamsher Singh, Dhian Singh and Bulbul Mehta were booked. Later on, around 30 complaints were filed against Daler Mehndi, his brother and two other for allegedly cheating the people in the name of taking them abroad.

While Daler Mehandi was convicted in 2018, Shamsher Singh and Dhian Singh died during the trial of the case and Bulbul Mehta was acquitted. Now Daler Mehndi has been lodged in Punjab’s Patiala jail, in the same barrack where senior Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu has been kept.
