Who Is Aman Chopra? What Is The Controversy That Led To FIR Against Him?

Aman Chopra is a well known face in the national media. The prominent news anchor is currently associated with India’s largest news network – News18 India, and has earlier worked with the renowned media houses including Zee News, ABP News and Rajyasabha TV.

But, what is the controversy due to which he is trending all across the media?

The demolition of a temple in Alwar, Rajasthan, has been the most heated up issue in the media, which has caused a political battle of blames between BJP and Congress party. During his show on the same issue, he brought up the anti-encroachment drive held in Jahangirpuri recently and wondered whether the action in Alwar was a retaliation for the drive in Jahangirpuri. Following the show, a coordinated hashtag was run on social media urging authorities to arrest Chopra for trying to link the two drives, this prompted the authorities to register cases against him.

Hosting a live show Chopra compared the temple demolition with that of a mosque in Jahagirpuri. “The revenge of Jahangirpuri by attacking Mahadev. Please listen to me carefully what I am about to say,” said the anchor during the show.

He went ahead, linking the incident in Alwar to that in Jahangirpuri, and said, “Could this be a coincidence two days ago, a bulldozer was used on the premises of a mosque in Jahangirpuri and today three temples were demolished in Rajasthan’s Alwar. One temple was 300 years old. Was it to avenge Jahangirpuri?” he alleged.

This is not the first time that Aman Chopra has been trending in a controversy. Earlier too, he was criticized in the past for taking bold stands on challenging topics. Shadab Chauhan, the chief spokesperson of the Peace Party, also threatened Aman Chopra with dire consequences in January after he weighed in on the threat received by journalist Ashok Shrivastav from Arun Rajbhar, the National General Secretary of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), an ally of Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party.

Currently, the FIRs have been filed in Rajasthan against News18 anchor Aman Chopra over his coverage of demolition of temples in Alwar during his TV debate show. Apart from promoting communal discord, and conspiring to incite riots, serious sections of sedition have also been added against Chopra. FIRs have been registered at Bundi and Bichhiwada police stations in Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, Alwar district administration has agreed to rebuild the 3 temples demolished during the demolition drive in Rajgarh, the war of blames is still up between BJP and Congress. The BJP has been continuously slamming the Gehlot govt, blaming it for demolishing the temple, the Congress party is saying that the local municipal corporation headed by the BJP, is responsible for it.
