Who Is Dr. Raj Bahadur – The Vice-Chancellor Of Baba Farid University? Why Did He Resign?

Dr. Raj Bahadur, the Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Medical Sciences, resigned from his post on Friday, a day after the health minister forced him to lay down on a dirty metress in Guru Gobind Singh Medical hospital, Faridkot. 

Who is Dr. Raj Bahadur?

Dr. Raj Bahadur, 71, is one of the well known and senior surgeons in Punjab. He is a specialist in joint replacement and spinal surgery. Having experience of over four decades, Dr. Raj Bahadur has worked at several well known and reputed health institutions. 

Apart from being the head of the He has even worked as the director and principal of Ortho department at PGIMER, Chandigarh, Dr. Raj Bahadur has also served as the director and principal of Chandigarh Government Medical College and Hospital.

Dr. Raj Bahadur, the renowned spinal surgeon, is the member of the topmost medical body – the National Medical Commission, and even serves as the project director and member secretary of the Regional Spinal Injuries Centre, Mohali. 

After Dr. Raj Bahadur’s resignation due to the misbehavior by health minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra, the PCMS association has called the entire incident “vehemently condemnable”. Even many opposition leaders like PPCC chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, BJP leader Sunil Jakhar, Congress MLA Sukhpal Khaira and a few more have lashed out at the health minister. 

What was the incidence?

Punjab health minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra, visited Guru Gobind Singh Medical hospital in Faridkot on Friday to witness the facilities. He got angry after he found a lot of mismanagement in the hospital. The mattresses were old, dirty and in bad condition, after which, the minister forced the Vice-chancellor Dr. Raj Bahadur to lay down on the dirty bed. 

A day after this incident, Dr. Raj Bahadur resigned from the post of VC, citing the misbehavior and humiliation by health minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra.
