Who Was Mohammad Shahabuddin? Zee5’s Rangbaaz 3 Could Be Inspired From This Politician!

After the two seasons of Zee5’s Rangbaaz, its third season has been released. As speculated, Rangbaaz S3 is based on the real life story of Bihar’s popular ‘bahubali’ politician Mohammad Shahabuddin. In this season, the character of Harun Shah Ali Baig alias ‘saheb’ has been played by actor Vineet Kumar Singh. 

This story shows how Harun Shah alias ‘saheb’ from a small town, became one of the most powerful and popular leaders in Bihar. Rangbaaz S3 had been released on July 29. 

Who Was Mohammad Shahabuddin? 

Mohammad Shahabuddin, was born in Pratappur village of Siwan on May 10, 1967. He was a MA in Political Science and  The ‘bahubali’ leader from Bihar was a heavyweight politician associated with former CM Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal. He was elected from Siwan Lok Sabha constituency as a member of parliament for four times between 1996 and 2004. He even was elected as the MLA from Ziradei assembly constituency in the year 1990 and 1995. 

The ‘bahubali’ leader joined the Janata Dal as a youth leader in the early 1990s under the leadership of Lalu Prasad Yadav. Mohammad Shahabuddin is a close aide of Yadav family. He won the assembly election in 1990 and 1995 as a Janata Dal candidate, and joined Lalu Prasad’s newly formed “Rashtriya Janata Dal” in 1997. 

Controversies Linked With Mohammad Shahabuddin:

Mohammad Shahabuddin has been linked with various controversies and criminal cases since young age. In 1986, when Shahabuddin was just 19,  the first case was registered against him. In Hussainganj police station, a history record was opened in his name, and he was classified as a “A” category criminal.

As per the report of a non-government NGO in 2011, the erstwhile RJD government of Bihar, under the CMship of Lalu Prasad Yadav, took no action against Mohammad Shahabuddin despite him being involved in a lot of heinous crimes. He established himself as the self-proclaimed “ruler” of Siwan district.

Eight months before the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Shahabuddin was detained for the 1999 kidnapping and murder case of CPI(ML) leader Chandrashekhar Prasad. However, he did relocate to a hospital for medical reasons, where he uses to meet his lawyers and politicians. Though, on Patna High Court’s direction, he was again shifted to Jail.

Despite being jailed, he contested the 2004 Lok Sabha elections from Siwan constituency, and won the election in a tough poll battle with JD(U) candidate Om Yadav. Various criminal cases including murder, land encroachment, extortion, possession of illegal weapons, kidnapping and even bombing, were registered against Mohammad Shahabuddin. 

In 2009, Mohammad Shahabuddin was banned from contesting any election. His wife contested the Lok Sabha election in 2009, but lost. On May 1, 2021, he died due to Covid-19, at a private hospital in Delhi.
