Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday hailed the Sikh gurus for their devotion, courage and sacrifices, saying their history reflects unmatched bravery and spiritual strength, Yogi Adityanath Veer Bal Diwas.
Addressing a ‘kirtan samagam’ organised at his official residence on Kalidas Marg in Lucknow, Adityanath said Mughal ruler Aurangzeb made a grave mistake by challenging Guru Tegh Bahadur. He remarked that while Aurangzeb’s name has faded from public memory, 140 crore Indians continue to remain grateful to the Sikh gurus for their sacrifices for faith and the nation.

Speaking during the Yogi Adityanath Veer Bal Diwas programme, the chief minister noted that the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sahib Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur serves as a reminder of standing firm against oppression. He described the Sikh gurus’ legacy as a blend of deep devotion and extraordinary courage, which continues to inspire generations.
Adityanath also referred to the hardships faced by Sikh gurus under Mughal rule, saying that even the brutality of rulers like Jahangir could not dim the spiritual radiance of the Sikh faith. According to him, the sacrifices made by the gurus were not limited to their community but were meant to protect humanity and freedom of belief.

Highlighting Guru Nanak Dev’s teachings, Adityanath said the founder of Sikhism worked selflessly for humanity during a time of limited resources. He said their martyrdom symbolises courage, sacrifice and unwavering faith.
