YouTube Introduces Budget-Friendly ‘Premium Lite’ Subscription Plan

On Wednesday, March 5, YouTube unveiled a new subscription plan, Premium Lite, making it the most affordable way to enjoy ad-free content on the platform. Priced at $7.99 per month (approximately Rs. 695), this plan is currently being tested in the United States and is expected to roll out to more regions in the coming weeks.

What Does Premium Lite Offer?

As a cost-effective alternative to the standard YouTube Premium plan, Premium Lite comes with certain trade-offs. While it allows users to stream most YouTube videos without ads, it does not include access to YouTube Music. This means users will still encounter ads when listening to music on the platform and will not have access to features like background play or offline music downloads.

Are There Still Ads?

Despite its ad-free promise, Premium Lite does not completely eliminate advertisements. YouTube clarifies that ads may still appear on certain content, including music videos, Shorts, and within search and browsing results.

YouTube’s Expansion and Growth

As YouTube celebrates its 20th anniversary, the platform has amassed an impressive 125 million subscribers, including those on trial plans. The introduction of Premium Lite is part of its strategy to provide users with more flexible content consumption options, catering to different needs and budgets.
