Zepto Mumbai’s Warehouse License Suspended After Expired Food, Fungus Growth Found By BMC

After startling infractions were discovered during a recent inspection, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) suspended the license of one of Zepto’s Mumbai warehouses, dealing a serious blow to the fast-commerce company. Serious concerns about food safety were raised when officials found fungus growth on a number of items and expired food products.

The Zepto warehouse in Kurla is where the inspection was carried out. BMC officials reported that a number of food items, including packaged snacks, beverages, and ready-to-eat items, were discovered to be well past their expiration dates. The disturbing images of fungal growth on food items that were included in the report attracted even more attention.

The BMC’s health department immediately suspended the license in accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Act as a result of these findings. According to officials, keeping food products that have gone bad or have fungus on them in storage is against several safety rules and poses a serious risk to public health.

One of the delivery startups with the fastest rate of growth in India, Zepto, has been under pressure to keep delivery deadlines tight. But the incident has raised concerns about the company’s inventory management and quality control procedures.

The business has been told by the BMC to make amends before re-licensing. The conditions have alarmed customers, who are calling for more stringent inspections of all quick-commerce storage facilities.

Zepto responded by confirming that the warehouse in question has been temporarily closed for investigation and sanitization and promising complete cooperation with authorities. They reaffirmed their dedication to upholding food safety and cleanliness in every facility.
