Punjab: SIT Preparing To Bring Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi On Production Warrant To Punjab

According to the media reports, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Mansa police probing is preparing to bring gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is suspected to be involved in Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala’s killing, on production warrant to Punjab. Mansa senior SSP Gaurav Toora said that the SIT is going through the CCTV footage and has traced the route used by the assailants to the attack on Sidhu Moose Wala.

SSP Gaurav Toora said, “we have traced the route used by them to escape. Some important clues were found on the abandoned vehicles used in the crime. Based on the leads during the investigation, police has arrested one person and brought two members of the Lawrance Bishnoi gang on production warrants. Bishnoi’s involvement is to be probed. We are sure that they have strong information regarding this module.Since Bishnoi is in the custody of Delhi Police at present, so as per law we cannot seek his remand right now. The SIT will make him join investigation after that and his role will be probed.”

Meanwhile, the Punjab Police on Tuesday detained Manpreet Singh alias “Bhau”, from Dehradun on Monday afternoon in a joint operation of Punjab Police and their Uttarakhand counterparts. He is suspected to have provided logistic support to the killers, including arranging two vehicles involved in the murder of Moose Wala. He was sent in five-day police remand by a Mansa court. Bhau is suspected to have provided the Bolero and Toyota Corolla car to the killers, which was seen multiple times in the CCTV footage three days before the murder of Moose Wala, as said by an official.

On the other hand, on Wednesday, Lawrence Bishnoi withdrew his plea from the Delhi High Court in which he had sought necessary safeguards as he apprehended a “fake encounter” by Punjab Police. His counsel submitted before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma that he wishes to withdraw the petition and wanted to file it before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court said, “The petition is dismissed as withdrawn.”

The plea in the Delhi High Court, sought direction to the Tihar Jail authorities and Delhi Police to ensure that necessary protection, including videography, for his safety before giving his custody to any other state police. Bishnoi is currently in Tihar Jail in connection with a case lodged under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA) and was on Tuesday remanded in three-day custody of the Delhi Police Special Cell after it arrested him in an Arms Act case.
