Seven Teachers Summoned After Their Video Went Viral Fighting For Food At CM Mann’s Event

After a video showing the school teachers and principals jostling for food plates went viral on social media, they were badly trolled by the netizens across the social media platforms. The incident took place after they met the Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann to discuss on several important issues and suggestions for educational reforms. Now, taking an action against those teachers seen jostling for food in the video, seven Punjab school principals and headmasters have been asked to appear before the district education officers on May 20.

Taking serious note of the video, the director of school education wrote a letter to the district education officers of Fazilka and Gurdaspur, and mentioned that the viral video brought shame to the education department. The order states that seven people who have been identified in the video – three principals, three head masters and one block primary education officer – have to report to the education department head office in Mohali on May 20, failing which departmental action will be initiated against them. While five of the seven summoned teachers are from Fazilka district, two are from Gurdaspur. The district education officers (DEOs) of Fazilka and Gurdaspur have also been summoned.

What was the matter?

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann launched an online portal after the conference to pursue suggestions for fetching “out-of-the-box” academic reforms. After the discussion got over, the teachers proceeded to the dining hall where they crowded to grab plates and were seen elbowing each other. In the video, teachers were seen pushing each other in order to grap a plate for lunch. The teachers behaved as if they were starving for several days and did not want to skip the free lunch. As per the media reports, a scrutiny of the video revealed that the school principals who were seen fighting for free food were from Gurdaspur and Fazilka districts.

The meeting was called by CM Mann to seek input to raise the bar for school education. Recently, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched an online portal to seek ideas and suggestions from teachers for educational reforms.
