India's entry for Oscars 2023 is announced & it is not RRR  or The Kashmir Files.

A Gujarati film Chhello Show has been chosen as India's submission to the Best International Feature Film category at the 95th  Academy Awards.

Chellow Show, set to hit theatres on October 14, 2022, follows young Samay’s pursuit of the 35mm dream.

The Gujarati film stars Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval & Paresh Mehta.

It premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in 2021 & also won the Golden Spike at the 66th Valladolid International Film Festival in October 2021.

The two other films that were being speculated to be India’s entry for the category were The Kashmir  Files & RRR.

Last year, Tamil drama Koozhangal (Pebbles), was selected as India’s official entry for the same category. However, it couldn't make  it to the top 5.

So far, no Indian film has ever won an Oscar. The last Indian movie that made it to the final 5 was Lagaan (2001)

The other two Indian movies to have made it to the top 5 were Mother India (1958) & Salaam Bombay (1989).

The 95th Academy Awards ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on 12 March, 2023.
